Jeez Louise 2005:
So What's it all About?

Linda Haggar received "The Melbourne Fringe Award for Outstanding Contribution to Industry Development" - for doing a damn fine job of creating and running Jeez Louise in 2002. That's why the Melbourne International Comedy Festival is proud to take on this event and build on the incredible success of Jeez Louise 2002.

"The most positive development of 2002 was "Jeez Louise", the comedy convention for women convened by Linda Haggar and held during the Fringe Festival. Attended by female comics from all over Australia, Jeez Louise was inspiring, informative and extremely timely."

TV and Radio comedy's new centre stage

Jeez Louise - Funny Women's Forum returned in 2004 as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and we discussed gals in the industry and ran workshops for new talent to help the next batch of funny ladies step up to the microphone.

The Message Board is still open, so drop in and drop us a line.

Previous Jeez Louises have encouraged gutsy and creative women to get on stage and give it a go. In the process, the comedy careers of some of Australia's most promising up-and-coming comics were launched.

It is no surprise then that comedy legend Linda Haggar's brainchild, Jeez Louise - Funny Women's Forum, is back again in 2005 proudly presented by The Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

What's it All About?

Jeez Louise is an opportunity for (mostly) women in comedy to get together. Forums, workshops, specialist talks, and information relating to the comedy industry will be presented by successful professionals including comedians, performers, writers, managers, producers, television & radio people.

The aim is to support and encourage women in comedy and this includes (but is not limited to) increasing the number of women in the industry. It is a chance to meet both long-standing professional comedy performers & discover some of those who are brand new to it.

The Program

The hands-on workshops and panels are designed to accommodate brand new, developing and more experienced comics. Topics will cover a broad range of aspects of the comedy industry and performance.
The Program of Events for 2005 has now been finalised. (but could be subject to change). You will receive further information once registered and can also view the 2004 program.

The Faux Show

The event will culminate with a Faux Show - a chance for the shiny new comics to give their expertly edited and reworked material a burl on stage for the first time in front of a supportive and friendly, participant - only audience. This will take place on Monday 11 April in the Melbourne Town Hall.
