Jeez Louise 2004:
|
|||
When?Sat 3rd - Sun 4th April 2004 |
Where?7 Alfred Place, off Collins St |
Linda Haggar received "The Melbourne Fringe Award for Outstanding Contribution to Industry Development" - for doing a damn fine job of creating and running Jeez Louise in 2002. That's why the Melbourne International Comedy Festival is proud to take on this event and build on the incredible success of Jeez Louise 2002.
"The most positive development of 2002 was "Jeez Louise", the comedy convention for women convened by Linda Haggar and held during the Fringe Festival. Attended by female comics from all over Australia, Jeez Louise was inspiring, informative and extremely timely."
Fiona Scott-Norman in The Age 13/12/2002
TV and Radio comedy's new centre stage
Anybody at all with an interest in the promotion of women in comedy. Australian and visiting comedy Queens (and Princesses) are invited to celebrate and encourage women in comedy in this fabulous 2 day event. And that means yes men are welcome too.
The programme is not exclusively about stand-up comedy - it's covers all areas of comedy performance from stage to television, literature to radio, management to film. Registration is open to performers, managers, producers, sticky-beaks and anybody else with a common interest in women in comedy. There is a limit to the number of participants we can accommodate, so registering early is a must.

Jeez Louise is a weekend for (mostly) women in comedy to get together. Forums, workshops, specialist talks, and information relating to the comedy industry will be presented by successful professionals including comedians, performers, writers, managers, producers, publicists, venue owners/managers, television & radio production people.
The aim is to support and encourage women in comedy and this includes (but is not limited to) increasing the number of women in the industry. It is a chance to meet both long-standing professional comedy performers & discover some of those who are brand new to it. There will be lots of eating, drinking, chatting, information sharing and having a good time.

Women brand new to comedy are encouraged to bring along some of your own raw material and have it put to our Joke Doctors' expert treatment. The event will close with a Faux Show at the Hi Fi Bar on Sunday arvo - a chance for the shiny new comics to give their expertly edited and reworked material a burl on stage for the first time in front of a supportive and friendly, participant - only audience.
